Boeing advises that the diode(M111, P/N233A3313-1)is used as protection for theDEU/DPC from any voltage spikes. Theswitch may operate without the diode, butBoeing recommend to install the diodeWithout this diode, it will generate veryarge voltage that can cause arcing andcause damage to the switch or reduce theswitch life. Therefore, the Operator shouldinstall this diode to suppress this large voltage prior to continuing revenue service. Boeing has no technical objection if the airplane needs to be ferried to amaintenance location to install the diodebut damage to the airplane hardware inthe flight deck may occur.
